My Best Wedding Photography of 2011

I’ve been looking through all of last years pictures to come up with a “best-of” post (actually started this the last week of December), but it’s just so hard to pick looking through almost 100,000 images. I’m not trying to say everything I shoot is amazing-but not saying it isn’t either however there are just shots I really really love from literally every single event. When you know the people, and were part of their wedding day, it’s hard to to not be in love with the pictures. So basically I decided I need to just fire off pictures to the blog that I really like randomly without trying to make one big gallery.

So to start, here is one of my favorite dancing pictures from last year. I love shooting receptions, because at this point in the wedding, any stress or nervousness that might have been present earlier in the day has melted away and the day turns in to a pure celebration. In this picture the groom and his dad are dancing and singing at the top of their lungs (to a Backstreet Boys song if I remember correctly!)

Christina and Kevin’s wedding at the Washington Athletic Club

I was excited to learn that Christina and Kevin’s wedding at the Washington Athletic Club was featured in the latest issue of their member magazine. We started by shooting some pictures getting ready in their Suite at the WAC, then did a first look on the rooftop deck, followed by portraits across the street. I started looking back through all of my 2011 pictures for a big end of the year post, and realized there are a ton of awesome pictures I never even blogged, and many more from events I did blog, but couldn’t fit in the posts. The busier I am shooting, the less time I have to blog, so in that way it was a great year in 2011. I got to work with so many great people, and be a part of so many great moments. I will have plenty of great blog material to get through the winter.

Here are a few from Jen and Ryan’s engagement session in the fall. We walked around some of their favorite spots in the city, starting at the Olympic Sculpture Park, and then heading over to Gasworks Park. Their wedding also happens to be my first one of 2012 later this month, (somewhere in the Caribbean, and requiring a passport

Tiffany and James in the cold november rain…

Here are some gorgeous portraits I got of Tiffany and James a couple weeks ago. The weather on their wedding day was about as bad as you could ask for, a rainy/dark/cold November afternoon in Seattle. But when you have a great couple to work with, and know some lighting tricks, you can get pictures that look like this

A lot of brides and grooms worry about rain on the wedding day, but I never do. I just say grab some cute umbrellas and have fun with it if the rain comes. There is no reason you can’t get great pictures if you are willing to get out there!

You might also wonder how Tiffany kept her dress from getting filthy standing on train tracks covered in wet dirty leaves…. Well I was prepared for that as well. I always bring a little piece of canvas that makes a perfect little platform to protect the dress
